SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 9:50 AM, MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Just woke up this morning to use my computer but when I typed something on Google, I noticed something got changed its look or is different. Wait --- is this the updated Google search bar?
Google recently updated their search bar to align with their own Material design language. Here is the screenshot of a Google search result with the updated Google search bar:
And here is the one with the old one with the old search bar (just trying to search "crying emoji" on Google, LOL)
Google doodle "Celebrating Popcorn" still present for now? Yup. It will disappear soon and turn into the Google "G" logo or the normal Google logo soon (along with the updated search bar depending on the page) several hours or even a day after I publish this blog article.
A new design for the search bar to align with Material Design
Now Google is up to redesign the search bar to align with their Material Design 3 language, remove its shadows, make it darker than the white background, and ... icons for the Google mic and Google Lens are now displayed solid grey instead of full-color, a tradition that is associated with the Google branding since 2015.
The new update comes with the full Google logo on every search result page being shortened to just the multicolored "G", a single-letter version of the Google logo for use in small contexts and sizes.
Old vs. new: The new design of the Google search bar is a huge update to the 2021 search bar which has white outlines or grey shadows while the 2024 one doesn't.
Old vs. new: The new design of the Google search bar looks longer the 2021 search bar (meaning it doesn't fit on small screens, yet). Also, instead of the full Google logo, the multicolored "G" is used. The search icon at the end of the updated search bar got moved to the left as well (in the case of the homepage), but it has been removed entirely in search result pages unless Google decides to bring it back.
Google always changes its UI since it launched as "beta" in 1998, it got its first redesign in 1999, and the UI changed ever again in the following years: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2021, and finally --- 2024.
A video detailing the history of how the Google homepage looked using computer animation is shown below (as the 2021 and 2024 UIs have subsequently arrived to Google, this video is outdated, unfortunately).
I'm trying to animate the Google homepage evolution in Blender but I can't finish that early probably due to my laziness. Hope it gets finished by early October :)
It's been a year since Google turned 25, and here it is --- Google may become 26 tomorrow on September 27! Will they make a doodle for them?
The bottom line for signed-out users?
When you search on Google in Incognito mode, the multicolored "G" will come together with the 2021 search bar, only seen on small display sizes. Maximizing your browser window or changing your screen resolution to a higher one will detach the "G" from the search bar and change it to the full Google logo. I've tested this in my POV using Microsoft Edge in InPrivate browsing mode... Also, the appearance of the website link bars may have slightly changed here.
NOTE: It appears to be that the new design initially only worked for signed-in users, and not on signed-out or guest ones. Google might plan to bring the new search bar design to people who aren't signed in to Google yet. Currently, I'm using Microsoft Edge to test the Google search bar's new design. (I also use Chrome as another browser to help my kids assist into learning, BTW.)
UPDATE: The search icon is still there in the Google search bar in the homepage, albeit it is not blue anymore, slightly smaller, and thinner than the previous one.
UPDATE 2: Updated this article again to further reflect that the new design only surfaced on signed-in users, not on signed-out ones. As I saw on my brother's teacher's MacBook, the Google search bar is still from 2021, unlike what I saw early this morning on my own computer.
UPDATE 2: Updated this article again to further reflect the new recent design changes to Google Search's UI design for signed-out users.
Logos, like most things we see and have every day in our lives, can change as they evolve. They are a part of a corporate image, and there can be guidelines on how to use them properly. But however, accessibility problems with some logos may be too frustrating for persons with disabilities (PWDs), so they can be updated and corrected to be more legible and easier to see in all scenarios. Think of this intro that Lee joe86 made. The full logo, as it was put on a black background in the video, was not designed and optimized for legibility due to different shades of colors that don't match with the other elements in the logo. (Video source: Lee joe86 YouTube channel ) "It's time to redesign the current logo" We studied the design, typography, and colors used in the logo. At first glance, it was initially unknown what typeface was used for the "86" text, but however Lee joe86 responded back to me in a Discord group chat that "the 86 text font is Work Sans B...
Hey there, ZoeError here. It's been a long time since I published my last post. As of 11:32 PM, I deleted my useless Windows Vista VM due to the following reasons: The disk space problems were increasing, holding me back from releasing new remakes. The VM itself is useless because it has been 30 days since I first set up that VM. Windows Vista was a major leap from previous Windows versions, but it was harder to use than Windows 7. I don't have (or have not obtained yet) any available software to activate the VM. For the first time, I'll be moving forward to enjoy making remakes on a PC that has enough disk space needed for me for my freedom to remake almost anything. That's it, guys. See y'all next time.
